From the drawing to the hallmark
A piece begins as a pencil sketch and a weight target. The goldsmith alloys the metal to the purity ordered, casts or hand-forges the form, sets the stones, and polishes it. Only then does it go to a BIS assaying centre, where it receives its HUID: six characters that stay with the piece for life.
On this marketplace you see that number before you buy, and the metal weight it certifies.
